Giving fans of chicken something to crow about, CockonCoal promises poultry with playful marinades and sauces, charcoal-cooked in egg-shaped kamado grills.
CockonCoal's four introductory chicken recipes take inspiration from home and abroad, spanning Kuala Lumpur to the Caribbean, Louisiana to Lahore - the Signature is marinated with tangy, nutty and spicy flavours, complemented by a sauce infused with lemongrass and turmeric; its Jamaican-inspired counterpart offers black pepper and tamarind notes, with a coriander and lemon jerk sauce. The Cajun showcases meat imbued with cayenne pepper, plus a sauce of paprika and red chillies, while the Saji offers a Pakistani perspective, marinated with mango and pomegranate, buoyed by an eggplant sambal.
The basic combo set clocks in at RM19.50 nett, yielding a quarter-chicken with one side dish (butter rice, corn on the cob, a hot dog, purple cabbage salad, or soup of the day) and a beverage.
We chose the Lahore, which is beautifully spiced, with aromatic subtleties that should feel authentically satisfying to patrons who relish the spectrum of smoky cuisine that unravels through Pakistan, North India and Bangladesh. Thanks to CockonCoal's friendly founder Larvin, an ex-engineer embarking on the F&B path for the first time, we managed to sample all four sauces, each deliciously distinctive in both taste and texture, with lovely, lusciously natural nuances - exciting evidence of CockonCoal's meticulous behind-the-scenes efforts.
