Woo Ga Chon @ Ampang
May 18, 2013
Woo Ga Chon has been a familiar name for fans of Korean fare in Kuala Lumpur for many years, but folks who havent been here recently have a reason to return now, since a new Korean family has taken over this outlet.
Many thanks to the Kim family for inviting us for this feast, which kicked off with a satisfying array of banchan small dishes. We particularly loved the kimchi, beautifully balanced in its spicy pungency & terrific in texture.
Marvelous meat, be it beef or pork, is the hallmark of a heavenly Korean establishment; on that score, Woo Ga Chon hits the bulls eye.
Charcoal-grilled marinated BBQ, a sizzling spectacle, whetting the carnivorous appetite & making omnivores forget about veggies.
Pork shoulders a melt-in-the-mouth, fatty-fleshy wonder. Ribs are remarkably tasty too.
For something surprisingly spicy, sample the stir-fried squid & baby octopus with white noodles in chili sauce (RM35 before taxes). Helpings remain hugely hearty here.
Claypot-steamed beef ribs with potatoes, another crowd-pleasing triumph, a testament to the passion & prowess of Mrs Kim, who has cooked professionally for three decades and now helms the kitchen at Woo Ga Chon.
Our favorite Korean recipe, "bibimbap," is masterfully made here as well.
Kimchi meat soup, a heartwarming finish to a fine meal. Woo Ga Chons current owners pride themselves on the honesty of their offerings, delivering the type of home-cooked cuisine that they too have relished all their lives.
Woo Ga Chons wall is flooded with smiling faces, the evidence of its happy customers.
