The Affogato Guys @ Puchong
July 3, 2016
Affogatos conceived with carrot juice or black tea instead of coffee, rounded out with a variety of Haagen-Dazs ice creams & unconventional toppings: The Affogato Guys create surprising twists that deliciously freshen up one of our favourite desserts.
Each of these is reputedly named after a friend of The Affogato Guys: Elly is an affogato for dessert devotees, teaming up lychee raspberry rose ice cream with fresh carrot juice, julienne carrots, cucumbers, longan & strawberries for a combo of crisp-&-creamy textures & perky, invigorating flavours (RM18.90 per affogato). The verdict: It all works, with everything in the well-thought-out ensemble complementing one another. It also helps that each ingredient tastes irreproachable, quality-wise.
For fans of tangy dynamics, try Jane - lemon sorbet with lime zest, fresh orange, burnt lemon slice & honey, balanced with black tea, plus salt on the rim to make the flavours pop further. It's almost like a (non-alcoholic) affogato version of a Margarita.
We like how each affogato showcases different facets; there's bound to be one for nearly every personal preference. Satsuki could be our best bet - cookies & cream ice cream with Korean matcha, made crunchy with Oreos & cornflakes; this playful pleasure pairs childhood indulgences with the sophisticated elegance of robust green tea for an absolutely indulgent affogato.
There are coffee-based affogatos too: Rachel is lots of fun - salted caramel ice cream heaped with roasted peanuts & a chocolate & peanut butter sauce, drowned with a test tube of a Guatemalan-blend espresso. Altogether, six affogatos are available; the other two feature Belgian choc ice cream with passion fruit juice, choc cookies & marshmallows, & royal milk tea ice cream with espresso, choc twiggies & cornflakes. We'll probably hearing much more about The Affogato Guys soon.
