Texas Roadhouse @ Dubai Mall
September 17, 2015
Infectious energy abounds at Texas Roadhouse, culminating in the spirited crew dancing to country hits by everyone from Brooks & Dunn to Luke Bryan. But in the end, the steaks and ribs rightfully steal the show - marinated just enough to let the natural flavours of the meat shine, cooked with the sort of care that lets customers enjoy each succulent bite and think to themselves, this is what all beef should taste like, all the time. We're looking forward to seeing Texas Roadhouse open in KL.
The Lone Star State takes on the City of Gold: Meals at Texas Roadhouse's outpost in Dubai Mall start well, with peanuts in buckets on the table for immediate snacking, followed by dense buns freshly baked every five minutes, paving the way for starters like buffalo wings (thoughtfully offered in options of both battered boneless & pure-meat bone-in, available in mild or hot), 'rattlesnake bites' (poppers really, containing diced jalapenos & jack cheese), BBQ pulled beef sliders, potato skins or fried pickles - it's fun to be able to customise your appetiser platter by choosing three types of food. Salads are available - the grilled chicken with made-from-scratch croutons is surprisingly sizeable - as is a robust beef chilli (flavours here are savoury, which might lead some customers to call for a little less salt).
Texas Roadhouse clearly knows how to tackle steaks (a 285-gramme rib-eye is fairly priced at AED94), but the 'Blue Ribbon' beef ribs are flat-out fabulous too, with a fall-off-the-bone gelatinousness that's seldom seen in Malaysia. It's nice that both the rib-eye & the rib can be ordered together for AED129. The beef burger suffers a bit in comparison, since the patty seems relatively grainy & gritty, but everything else worked well - juicy shrimp skewers with well-prepared seasoned rice, plus sides of beautifully textured mashed potatoes, fries flavourfully loaded with cheese & beef bacons, & crisp, fresh-tasting coleslaw.
We'd probably skip the margaritas, since they were too sour for our liking. But we like plenty of other playful elements here - a hop on the saddle for customers who have their birthdays, as well as the opportunity for anyone to select songs from a jukebox to play on the restaurant's speakers. It makes sense that Texas Roadhouse was close to packed on a week-night.
