Eau De Vie @ Nexus Bangsar South

October 16, 2014

A full-blown seafood eatery, merged with a fully stocked liquor store - Eau De Vie knows what floats our boat & lifts our spirits.

Eau De Vie is the latest watering hole in Bangsar South's increasingly crowded Nexus complex; but as far as we know, it's locally owned, with no connection to the popular bars of the same name in Sydney & Melbourne.

Wine, whiskies, sake, all available at reasonable retail prices. For customers who want to consume wine purchased here in the restaurant, the corkage charge is RM25 per bottle (free for the third bottle).

For an unbeatable bargain that only a wholesaler can probably offer, Eau De Vie's (extremely) happy hours for wine stretch from noon through 9pm everyday, with house pours at a tremendously tempting RM10 nett per enjoyable glass - the white's beautifully crisp, the red's pretty mellow. After 9pm, it's a still-respectable RM15 per glass.

Eau De Vie's seafood-focused menu remains a work in progress, but we like what we've tasted so far - these recipes seem both well-prepared & well-priced. The crab cakes with bok choy & garlic aioli (RM21 nett) come stuffed with moist & flavoursome crustacean flesh instead of woebegone filler. Worthwhile if you've been hunting for satisfactory crab cakes.

Juicy-fresh Tasmanian black mussels (RM30 nett), cooked with white wine, garlic, shallots, butter & parsley; we slurped up every spoonful of the rich, savoury sauce. Other preparations are available too, including mussels with melted cheddar cheese or with tomatoes & chilli peppers.

The signature starter's an interesting creation - chunky, steaming-hot potato skins (RM19) stuffed with smoked salmon & onions, topped with salmon roe & Mornay sauce. The rest of the menu looks tantalising too - fish goujons (RM15), scallop spaghetti in prawn bisque (RM29) & oyster platters.

This place has plenty of potential - Eau De Vie could become one of Bangsar South's most alluring F&B attractions in the months ahead. Kudos as well to the friendly & efficient team here.
