Akan's Canteen does an admirable job turning a stark space into a warm, welcoming cafe. Desserts make the trip worthwhile; the salted caramel brownie is rich and robust, the peach cheesecake is a fruity tropical treat, and the choux au craquelin with chocolate cream is lovably luscious.
