McDonald's Malaysia: Rekindling Ramadan Favourites

May 20, 2019

In conjunction with Ramadan, McDonald’s Malaysia is bringing back some beloved favourites and launching new instant classics on its menu, from hearty rice temptations to foldover sandwich treats, plus fruity pies and chilled desserts to make each buka puasa session even more enjoyable. The promotional offerings promise a taste of local flavours that should make for memorable, mouth-watering meals throughout the fasting month.

The Ramadan specials are already available at McDonald's restaurants nationwide, all the way till 5 June 2019, but the thrill kicked into high gear recently with a packed media launch at McDonald's in Mutiara Damansara. “While there are many iconic tastes that we offer all year round, we find occasions or seasons like Ramadan perfect to offer our customers a differentiated and exciting flavour experience,” enthused Melati Abdul Hai, McDonald's Malaysia's Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer.

Since rice remains a staple ingredient for buka puasa, the Nasi McD paired with the spicy Ayam Goreng McD will be a sure-fire smash, made extra-pleasurable with a new Curry Sauce that might revive nostalgic memories of Grandma's cooking. The sauce is rich and robust, bringing a dynamic, tongue-tingling edge to the aromatic rice and juicy chicken, beautifully battered to a golden crunch.

This is the perfect choice to please all generations; the set includes a medium-sized coleslaw and a medium Iced Lemon Tea, for a complete, fuss-free buka puasa dinner. The Nasi McD set with one piece of Ayam Goreng McD starts at RM13.95, while the set with two pieces costs RM16.95. The Curry Sauce add-on costs RM1.50.

Making a comeback exclusively for Ramadan is the massively popular Chicken Foldover, with a new signature sauce that brings a creamy tang to the two pieces of grilled chicken patties wrapped with fresh lettuce and tomatoes in a warm toasted flatbread. Served with medium French Fries and medium Iced Lemon Tea for RM16.95, this is a fulfilling order that would work well if you'd like to buka puasa on the go, since it's so conveniently packaged for munching on the move.

Note that starting 6 May, McDonald's has extended selected Regular Menu items until 6am to cater to fasting customers, so bookmark your nearest McDonald's for Sahur meals. The poultry-powered selection includes Nasi McD, Ayam Goreng McD, McChicken, Spicy Chicken McDeluxe and Chicken McNuggets.

Dessert will help complete the breaking of the fast. Durian devotees will be delighted to hear that the D24 Durian McFlurry (with real D24 Durian) has returned, with its unmistakably potent fragrance that will keep customers coming back. Meanwhile, available now for breakfast is the Banana Pie, bursting with tropical lusciousness encased in a crisp shell to energise you early in the morning. The current line-up also includes Sarsaparilla Cones and the McCafe Ice Blended Ribena to complement your meal with a rejuvenating beverage, making McDonald's a one-stop destination to indulge your sweet tooth this season.

McDonald’s Malaysia is also launching a 30 Days of Ramadan promotion exclusively via the McDonald’s App. This '30-days, 30-deals’ promotion offers special discount coupons that will be released on the App on a daily basis. The App can be downloaded on Android and iOS.

In line with McDonald's Malaysia's annual tradition, all 270 McDonald’s restaurants in Malaysia will organise a weekly moreh (after-prayer meal) at various local mosques this Ramadan. Through this initiative, McDonald’s aims to strengthen ties and build relationships with surrounding communities. The underprivileged will not be forgotten as McDonald’s Malaysia will also host orphanages for a buka puasa treat. “In our 37 years in Malaysia, McDonald’s has witnessed that Ramadan brings out the best in us. It is only natural for McDonald’s to continue doing our part in the communities we operate in by creating initiatives that bring us closer to people,” Melati pledged.

Many thanks to McDonald's Malaysia for this peek at the Ramadan festive promotions.
