The physical pinnacle of KL's rooftop bars, Vertigo confidently scales the summit of Banyan Tree Kuala Lumpur's 59th floor, bringing the panoramic high life to patrons seeking a fresh, wide-open setting to savour the city's skyline. If you're thinking of ushering in the new year here, it would be tactical to make your booking as early as possible.
True to Banyan Tree's roots, an Asian touch is infused into much of Vertigo's cocktail repertoire: Nuances of screwpine leaves linger in the Pandan Love (RM45; with Stolichnaya vodka, lychee juice and Monin peach syrup), Gula Melaka takes the Hazelnut to its aromatic apex (RM45; with Kraken spiced rum, frangelico, Monin coco and fresh lime), and Midori melon liqueur brings a refreshing splash to the Gambatte (RM45; with Finlandia lime vodka, Cointreau, egg white and passion fruit foam).
The bar is elevated further by its food selection, which rockets beyond basic buffalo-wing snacks to showcase thoughtful compositions like blue swimmer crab rolls with shaved daikon and citrus-tinged cous cous. We were recommended the roasted hand-cut Angus steak skewers, meaty and chunky, with hints of wakame and a side of poori-shaped fluffy flatbread to bring Japanese and Indian perspectives to an Argentine gaucho tradition (RM42; a dollop of guacamole rounds out the recipe).
