Tiffin Food Court: What to Eat

In Part Two of our preview of this month's Tiffin Food Court, we offer a peek into some of the tasty temptations that over 30 independent F&B purveyors will serve. You'll find diverse dishes specially created by each vendor, including ones available exclusively at this event in PJ on December 8-10, 15-17, and 22-24 (Fridays through Sundays) - it's a food festival not to be missed!
Only for the first weekend of Dec. 8-10, five local brands curated by Eat Drink KL will offer a selection of their creative best, served in an eat-on-the-move, street-food style - Eatomo Food Co (from Taman Desa and Solaris Dutamas), Random Food Store (from Damansara Uptown), Geographer Cafe (from Jalan Tun H.S. Lee), Copper (from Menara Shell) and Patty & Pie (from Aman Suria).
First up, the spotlight is on Eatomo, the seafood specialist with comfort food that takes inspiration from across the globe. Expect a variety of poke-inspired rice bowls such as the Mini Cali Poke, lusciously layered with salmon, octopus, guacamole and more (RM 12), and also the one-of-a-kind Mini Pokelantan, which is an only-in-Malaysia signature, using a sauce made partly with Kelantan's budu fish sauce for a very unique twist (RM 12).
For marvellous munching, you can't go wrong with Hiroshima Oyster Fry (RM 8/RM 15 for 2) and the Chipironnes fried baby squid (RM 12). Eatomo is even prepped for dessert, with irresistible indulgences like the Deep Fried Oreos (RM 7) and Deep Fried Snickers Bar (RM 10).
Don't stop there though - Random Food Store will present its latest Asian-inflected rice bowls that stir up a flavourful punch. For this recent preview, the store tantalised taste buds with its Thai Red Lychee Curry Rice Bowl with Roast Duck (RM 10), which sold out with hours to spare. It's a hot, freshly made bowl with plenty of delicious dynamics. On Dec. 8-10, Random Food Store will also serve two other highlights - the BBQ Vietnamese Chicken Rice Bowl and the vegetarian-friendly Monkey Head Mushrooms with a Mexican Queso Cheese sauce, at RM 10 each.
Geographer Cafe is poised to pack a triple threat of Kerabu Salad (RM 10), Rasam Wantan (RM 10), and Gai Yang, Thai-style charcoal roasted chicken drizzled with a chilli tamarind dressing (RM 10 for quarter, or RM 20 for half), bringing together Asian flavours galore in one booth. At this preview party, Geographer was moving Gai Yang by the dozen - you get plenty of mighty meat for the price, which promises excellent value for money. Bring a few friends to help share the feast!
Modern European eatery Copper might be one of the most ambitious participants of Tiffin, carving out an all-new menu that may challenge the senses and expectations.
If you love recipes that surprise you a little, sample Copper's Savoury Macarons (RM 5 each, or RM 8 for 2), Cold Truffle Pasta (RM 19), Ceviche del Dia (RM 19), Crispy Spiced Fried Chicken (RM 15), and Berrymisu (RM 12), each thoughtfully conceived and expertly put together for beautifully balanced flavours and textures.
Fans of Patty & Pie, make your way to Tiffin for a Malaysian-influenced burger that you can't find at their outlet - the Celup Burger (RM 12) stacks melted cheddar, lemongrass chilli and fresh ulam on top of your choice of chicken or beef patty, for an aromatically savoury, sweet and spicy delight that's an absolute should-try for the Klang Valley's burger devotees!
There are many, many more vendors, which will serve up their wares across all three weekends. In Check out Boozeat for fresh oysters, El Maiz for very enjoyable Tequenos (Venezuelan cheese sticks), and Lucky Cuisine, which has just the ticket when it comes to spiciness, with a bowl of Cumin Lamb that's spectacularly sizzling. And it's best to head to Toridoki's booth as early as possible - for this party, they were so popular that they sold out, restocked, and very nearly sold out again with their selection of chicken skewers.
There's much more to discover, from cold brews to cook cocktails (the latter by Malaysian bartender extraordinaire C.K. of Coley and Pahit), so be sure to bookmark an evening of culinary exploration at Tiffin Food Court to satisfy both your palate and your tummy!
