If you're biased in favour of flora-filled cafes, Neutrals should win your vote as TTDI's most inviting new space. Plant your roots here with fiddle-leaf figs on one corner, potted ferns hanging from the ceiling, and staghorns branching out of the wall, soaking up the sunshine that streams from the windows.
Neutrals marks a collaboration between PJ's The Roast Things coffee roasters and Bangsar South's Sunbather Coffee, with the former handling the caffeine.
After seven years of supplying beans to countless cafes and running two of its own (Cream and TGT In Life), The Roast Things can be relied on for our fix of flat whites (RM12; add RM2 for oat milk), pleasantly light with a gentle tang and smooth finish.
Don't skip the seasonal kombucha, currently a blend of apple and thyme (RM16), easy-drinking with a mellow fermentation.
Sunbather's sandos should be ready for takeouts this weekend - Japanese-style sandwiches, thickly stuffed with playful ingredients in house-baked rye bread. Combos will include the Ajitsuke Tamago Sando, Scotch Egg Sando, Maple Chicken Sando, Fish Katsu Sando, Spiced Mushroom Sando and Tofu Katsu Sando (RM20-RM35).
Bento-style meals will also be available, including the Beef Chizu Hambagu Bento, Marmalade Chicken Bento, Teriyaki Chicken Bento and Grilled Salmon Bento (RM25-RM31).
Quiches will include the Unagi & Leek, Smoked Salmon & Potato, and Quiche Lorraine (RM19-RM21).
For now, check out the cute sando-inspired signature Scones, tall and colourful, with comfortingly cakey textures and layered flavours (RM12 each). The matcha scone with matcha cream is double the green tea delight, mild and mellowly aromatic, turned into the perfect teatime treat with mascarpone and fresh strawberries, while the buttermilk scone with a chunky slab of butter is richer and heavier, balanced with red bean paste for Japanese adzuki sweetness.
