Frediani's Market & Deli, Bangsar
December 5, 2019
With an Italian-born, British-raised chef-founder at its helm, Frediani's is Bangsar's new eatery for everything from London-loving Scotch eggs, tender and textured (RM24; perked up with mustard dip), to Sicilian-seduced arancini, crisp rice balls loaded with creamy cheese (RM21; enlivened with thick and tangy arrabbiata sauce).
While tagliatelle bolognese, lasagne al forno and tiramisu pepper the menu, it might be more tempting to have a full Brexit-themed meal here - start with the black pudding, a savoury boon for blood sausage hunters in KL (RM8), followed by hearty-chunky steak and kidney pie with roasted potatoes, veggies and gravy (RM38), ending with ice cream stuffed Yorkshire pudding for the young at heart (RM15). Pair with wines by the glass, spanning Italian Pinot Grigio (RM29) to Merlot from the former British colony of Australia (RM26).
Specials are also available - on weekdays for lunch, the bangers and mash showcase plump pork sausages with mashed potatoes and onion gravy for excellent escape-from-work comfort (RM25), while breakfast, available only through noon, promises a more playful selection, including a Hawaiian loco moco-inspired creation of spiced pulled pork heaped with fried eggs on garlic rice with mushroom gravy in a cast-iron pan, soulfully satisfying (RM32).
With a large kitchen that's open to public view, the friendly Frediani's makes many of its ingredients in-house, from sausages to other offerings for takeaway, including hand-crafted pies, pasties and quiches.
