Breakfirst Cafe, Cheras

March 5, 2019

This cheerful Cheras cafe opened on Valentine's Day this year and seems set to win many hearts with a sun-kissed setting and a menu of comfort fare that feels like a warm hug (bonus points for the service crew too and their welcoming embrace of customers).

In a battle between the Western burger and the Asian mantou, the triumphant party might rely on personal preference - the BF Handcrafted Cheese Burger showcases a tender, tasty and textured Australian beef patty, sitting pretty in its 160-gram glory, packed with cheese, crispy bacon, pickled onions, barbecue sauce and paprika mayo between the buns (RM28 with waffle fries), while the BF Signature Salted Egg Chicken Mantou highlights crispy-juicy chicken thigh meat, saturated with salted egg sauce and enhanced with ebiko, stuffed inside fresh, warm mantou (RM20). Both will have their fans, so in the end, maybe the customer's the winner.

Breakfirst bakes its own cakes, with intriguing temptations like the Mango Red Velvet, buoyed by sweetly ripe fruit layering the fluffy cake. The Flat White (RM10) isn't flat - it's satisfyingly flavoursome, and it comes with a nifty cookie, so coffee enthusiasts, take note of this new haunt.
