Vvaffle Waffles @ The School, Jaya One
December 6, 2014
KL's Wondrous Week of Waffles wraps up with Vvaffle, the third new premium waffle outlet to pop up in the Klang Valley, helmed by the young Malaysian trio of Trent, Wal Ter & Jun, specialising in Belgian Liege waffles with experimental toppings.
Brioche dough with Belgian pearl sugar form a balanced batter for Vvaffle's fresh-tasting, well-textured offerings - dense enough for a firm, fulfilling bite but sufficiently tender to yield a pleasant chew, rounded out by a crisp, caramelised exterior.
What's intriguing about Vvaffle is that its choice of toppings will change multiple times each month, with new combinations constantly in the pipeline - this week's varieties comprise a Japanese-spiked savoury recipe with torched takoyaki sauce, mayo, dried bonito flakes & chilli pepper (RM10).
For something salty-sweet, here's one drizzled with crushed peanuts, cinnamon sugar & maple glaze (RM8). Next week, the theme promises to be cheese, cheese, cheese (there's potential in that idea).
Our favourite so far is this: Waffle with white chocolate, pure vanilla cream & Nestum flakes (RM8), the warmth of the waffle well-teamed with the cool, softly sweet toppings. We look forward to what tasty possibilities Vvaffle will come up with next.
And of course, any place that serves Smooshie fruit juices proves right off the bat that it has good taste.
Other new waffle joints: Chequers @ TTDI & Madame Waffle @ Mid Valley.
