Uncle Don's @ SS2 Petaling Jaya & Hall Of Fame @ Nexus Bangsar South
September 14, 2016
Uncle Don's has become a fast favourite in PJ for its people-pleasing fare - our best bets here are all about the hog: A redo of Filipino sizzling sisig (RM10.80; made with ground pork meat instead of chopped pig ears) & Malaccan Portuguese claypot sambal pork belly that's creamy & flavoursome (RM10.80). We could nitpick about our other orders - the grilled pork belly (RM18.80) could have been juicier, the nachos with pork chilli con carne (RM16.80) crispier & the spicy bacon omelette (RM16.80) much less greasy - but Malaccan-born chef Don Daniel Theseira has crafted a menu that confidently illustrates his experience & capabilities. Note: This SS2 outlet is the original, but there's now also a second Uncle Don's in Solaris Dutamas.
Uncle Don's
183, Jalan SS2/24, Petaling Jaya, Selangor. Daily, 11am-12am. Tel: 03-78658293
Hall Of Fame hopes to hit the big leagues with a crowd-rousing selection that may not necessarily bat a thousand but won't strike out either - pork shoulder satay with peanut sauce, beef chilli fries with egg, pork croquettes with wood ear mushrooms, stir-fried sambal pork belly with mantou, Shaoxing wine chicken wings, & a pork burger with guacamole, sour cream & mango salsa might hit home runs with easy-going customers. But it's safe to take a rain check on this sports bar's nondescript nachos.
Hall Of Fame
G-2B, Nexus Bangsar South, Kuala Lumpur. Daily, 11am through late. Tel: 03-2242-2362
