Tetangga Kita @ Hartamas Shopping Centre
August 21, 2018
Specialising in a popular street snack from our neighbouring nation of Indonesia, this new kiosk promises fresh, warm servings of the griddle pancake known in Indonesia as martabak, a cousin of Malaysia's apam balik.
The martabak is offered in a choice of sweet or savoury preparations, with the former available in two styles - thick and fluffy or thin and crisp. You can watch it being made immediately after placing your order.
Execution is authentic - one of Tetangga Kita's founders hails from Jakarta, and crew members come from Bandung and Aceh.
We tried a thick, indulgently soft martabak layered with Nutella and cheese (RM25, sufficient for three persons to share), as well as a thin version with green tea Kit Kat and cheese (RM17, ideal for two persons).
The fun fillings proved nicely proportioned, folded in an eggy batter with lots of butter slathered in between - rich and creamy for the Nutella-cheese martabak manis, sugary-salty in a well-balanced way for the latter. All in all, certainly worth sampling.
Other sweet options include Red Velvet Oreo or Corn With Cheese, while savoury possibilities range from plain egg to a chicken stuffing (RM15-RM20).
