Tenmaya, Hana Yuzen, Kotaro Sushi & Moriawase Bento
September 23, 2016
This low-key eatery is a decent destination for diving into a Japanese dinner of comfort carbs - a rice roll stuffed with foie gras, a bowl of rice topped with tuna belly & sea urchin, & a hot-pot of rice mixed with mushrooms & truffle oil, all capably prepared.
Tenmaya, Nexus Bangsar South, Kuala Lumpur
Hana Yuzen's selection of maki - some stuffed with eel & avocado, others with salmon sashimi, fruits & fish floss - qualify as passable, though based on these sushi rolls alone, it's impossible to build a case for this Subang restaurant as a should-visit.
Hana Yuzen, SS15 Subang, Selangor
Kotaro may be a cautionary tale on how Japanese joints that aspire to impress must more robustly examine the strength of their produce & chefs, especially with a menu that raises expectations by offering Wagyu beef sushi & Sakura shrimp rolls.
Kotaro Sushi, Pearl Point Shopping Mall, Old Klang Road, Kuala Lumpur
A meal at Moriawase may comprise a sashimi bento, soft-shell crab spring roll, cherry tomatoes stuffed with crab meat, tuna-packed rice paper rolls, & lemongrass-grilled salmon - it's a struggle however to summon up compliments for these creations.
