Roast FactorGlee @ The Club, Bandar Utama

March 3, 2014

Don't stop believin' that riveting new caffeine bars can still storm the Klang Valley: Run by a Malaysian who cultivated a passion for beans while she was working in Panama, Roast FactorGlee has the X-Factor to help it stand out amid the current cafe boom.

Tucked inside The Club compound at Persiaran Bukit Utama, Roast FactorGlee fits the definition of an oasis; head here in the afternoon & be welcomed by the buttery scent of hot scones fresh out of the oven, baked by cafe owner Shyue Chin's brother ..

 ... & brioches paired with Roast FactorGlee's own-made jams (strawberry-tomato & banana-rhubarb are the current highlights) ...

... plus chocolate chip cookies studded with almonds, muffins made with virgin coconut oil & gula melaka, as well as familiar-looking slices of cakes (some supplied by Frost & Flourish: peanut-butter-&-banana & raspberry cheese).

But what's most exciting is what awaits once Roast FactorGlee's kitchen opens later this month to serve hot food: Expect breakfasts with a twist initially, followed eventually by savoury sensations like Danish-style roast pork shoulder (inspired by Shyue Chin's Denmark-born husband).

The cafe's pride: coffee produced with beans roasted on-site; single-origin Colombian Inza is simultaneously light & luscious.

Espressos, lattes & mochas (the current house blend is two-thirds Indonesian, one-third Colombian).

Beat the heat with a cold brew or Fatbaby ice cream. It's a cliche these days to say that a cafe is run with passion, since so many are, but it holds true nonetheless for Roast FactorGlee. This is a brand to watch.
