Reggae Bar @ Changkat Bukit Bintang

Reggae Bar's new two-story place at Changkat Bukit Bintang is more upmarket than its decade-old original outlet at Jalan Tun H.S. Lee. A boisterous bar on the ground floor is the focal point, but there's a dining hall upstairs that provides a more peaceful experience.

Customers who hate reggae won't have to worry about their ears bleeding; the music policy seems to be "something for everyone" _ this might be the only spot on this street that plays "Tennessee Waltz" and "Green Green Grass of Home."

The food here is billed as "modern European cuisine." We were surprised to see foie gras with pineapple on the menu, and even more stunned to receive two thick, well-prepared slabs of goose liver for what seemed like the price of one.

Baked Canadian cod. Moist, tender and fresh-tasting.

Barramundi stuffed with asparagus. Coated in a honey and hollandaise sauce that was a bit too rich and salty, overpowering the fish's natural sweetness.

Reggae Pasta (spaghetti with venus clams, salmon, scallops, squid & mushrooms in a light tomato sauce cooked in aluminum foil). A gigantic serving that could feed four. Better than expected; certainly good enough to rival similar versions offered at many KL Italian outlets.

Pan-seared salmon with crushed basil and lemon butter sauce. We were all fish-ed out by now, but this still proved succulent enough to recommend.

Reggae Tea Street Party (vodka, gin, rum, triple sec, tia maria, grand marnier, cranberry juice) and Rasta Dream Lovers (gin, midori, sweet and sour).

Dragon Fruit Mojito (rum, mint leaves, lime, palm sugar, dragon fruit, top-up soda) and Jamaican Despertador (tequila, grand marnier, grenadine, honey, cranberry juice).
