November-December Chef's Specials @ Ippudo BSC

Need a reason to return to Ippudo regularly? Every three months, a fresh & creative selection of limited-period chef's specials is offered to complement Ippudo's long-term menu; here's a look at what customers can enjoy until the end of December 2014.
The restaurant might be renowned most for its ramen, but these specials show that Ippudo's team is skilled at whipping up more than noodles & broth. Note that the chef's specials vary from branch to branch; the recipes reviewed here are exclusively available at Bangsar Shopping Centre, not at Pavilion & The Gardens.
Start with scallops; Ippudo's hotate is served in the fashion of aburi carpaccio, lightly broiled for a smokiness that complements each plump piece, topped with salmon roe & tozasu vinegar jelly for a savoury finish. RM38++.
Beef-eaters will be tempted by the tataki - very briefly seared meat, vinegar-marinated & sliced with subtly spicy garlic sauce (RM33++), another appetiser that'll perk up the appetite with a pleasurable piquancy.
Prefer pork? Not a problem; this is Ippudo after all, a pork perfectionist. Roast pork is partnered with a wasabi-laced Oriental soy sauce on this protein powerhouse of a platter. RM22++.
The main event: The chef's special ramen for this round is misoshiromaru (RM26++), featuring flat, medium-thick noodles in tonkotsu broth blended with miso paste, The secret weapon in this bowl: Freshly grated ginger, for a lovely kick to the flavour.
Customers can still continue to order from the regular a la carte menu; one of the favourites at Ippudo BSC is the garlic-graced Kuro (RM28++), a heavier option with BBQ pork, black fungus & spring onions.
Leave on a sweet note: We like the chef's special matcha panna cotta (RM16++, also available till December ends). Simultaneously light but creamy, rich but not too sweet in its green-tea goodness, topped with azuki beans & sesame cracker.
Ippudo BSC is also blessed with a full bar, making it an unexpectedly ideal stop for a drink in Bangsar. Unique, fairly priced & well-crafted Japanese-influenced cocktails here include the Aranciatta Plum (RM22++, umeshu & sparkling orange) & the Chocolate Whipped (RM24++, a dessert beverage with Nikka Black whiskey, Malibu Rum, chocolate puree & whipped cream)
