Miru, The Ais & Wesley's Wild Honey @ Damansara Uptown
October 11, 2015
Damansara Uptown is drawing diverse new dessert parlours - the one with the most buzz is Miru, a friendly stop that serves satisfyingly thick Shibuya-style honey toasts, with warm, lightly crisp exteriors that yield to a fresh-tasting, buttery fluffiness, in varieties like shredded cheddar cheese with vanilla ice cream (RM16), pandan kaya with coconut flakes & coconut ice cream (RM16), hazelnut sauce with Ferrero Rocher & vanilla ice cream, matcha sauce with adzuki beans & green tea ice cream, & peanut butter with vanilla ice cream. Undeniably guilty indulgences, but the calories feel entirely enjoyable.
Offering cold comfort amid the Klang Valley's current heatwave, The Ais might melt some hearts with its assortment of ice cream & sorbets in fun flavours like Cinnamon Plum, Horlicks Kit Kat, Rum & Raisin, Baileys, Gula Melaka, Coffee Nuts, Lemon Poppyseed & Dragon Fruit, available starting from RM7.90 per scoop to RM18 for a triple. You can also have a plate of mini pancakes with a scoop of ice cream for RM17.90. The flavours are mild & mellow, which should placate customers who consider most commercially manufactured desserts too saccharine. But others might prefer their ice cream richer & denser.
Wesley's Wild Honey is maintaining a low profile, but it's probably still worth a visit for French toasts (RM10.80) & waffles (RM15.80) prepared to order & partnered with shots of Tualang wild rainforest honey, which boasts a fruity-flowery sweetness that's brightly well-rounded but far from cloying. If you're a fan of the honey, rejoice: The locally founded Wesley's also promises everything from ice jelly with wild honey to Tongkat Ali or Bentong Ginger honey tea. Honey, I'm good, indeed.
