M1Star @ Damansara Uptown
February 14, 2016
M1Star has a bit of an intriguing background, tracing its lineage to both Malacca & Manhattan. It's run by a family member of Malaccan-raised chef Kathy Wong, the original founder of Laut, a Malaysian restaurant in NYC that earned a Michelin star several years ago. Kathy reputedly supplied not only the inspiration & skills training for M1Star but advised on its recipes: familiar favourites from the Western & Japanese oeuvre, with some extra touches like flavoursome house-made sauces - butter garlic cream & lemon sauce - to complement its chicken & fish chop platters, complete with butter rice sprinkled with crispy-fried garlic, plus potato wedges & a fruit coleslaw for a balanced & filling meal (RM15.90 each, including a beverage).
The menu is extensive - from the Japanese cookbook, you'll find preparations that range from teriyaki salmon (RM20.90 for a set with a choice of beverage, such as lemon tea, passion fruit juice, honey lemon or green tea) to seafood donburi (RM20.90 for this comfort-food set). But M1Star's influences are nonetheless far-reaching enough to include its version of Chicken Kiev (RM16.90 for a set; boneless chicken breast, coated with breadcrumbs & rolled around a stuffing of butter & finely chopped coriander) & fuss-free side dishes like salads with ginger, goma or onion dressings (RM6.90). Thanks to M1Star for having us.
