Hayadon @ Wisma Cosway & D-Buri Buri @ Damansara Uptown

December 5, 2015

Dawn of the Dons: Restaurants that deal in donburi - Japanese rice bowl meals - are on the rise. Hayadon, with a tagline 'Great Don, Spot On,' has branches in Wisma Cosway & Quill City Mall, nailing the formula for fuss-free comfort fare at crowd-pleasing prices. Options like the okayodon (RM10.90; with simmered chicken, egg & scallions over rice) & the tender beef don (RM12.90) make for satisfying meals, served steaming-hot with a blanket of fresh-flavoured toppings. Small wonder there's a big lunch crowd. A smattering of non-donburi dishes is available, such as udon with curry (RM12.90), salmon or spicy chicken.

December 2015 Update: D Buri Buri appears to be now closed.
Over at Damansara Uptown, D-Buri Buri offers a wide range of rice bowls, from soul-food classics like simmered chicken & egg to fried-nosh favourites like tempura seafood, alongside noodles with Japanese beef curry & other Nippon staples like gyoza & hamburg steak. Prices are sensible, with meals south of RM20 possible. When we visited D-Buri Buri earlier this year, its food preparation could have been fine-tuned (the chicken tasted past its prime, while the various sauces & seasonings could have been more robust), but the outlet's team seemed open to feedback, & we trust it has worked out its teething issues.
