Daphne's @ Athens, Greece
February 17, 2015
Daphne's has nurtured a reputation as one of Athens' most atmospheric restaurants, though its main claim to fame is having hosted the Clintons for a meal when the former presidential couple visited the Greek capital.
If the weather permits, sit outdoors & savour the romance of Daphne's sculpted garden, a mini-Eden of trees & terracotta. Inside, frescos dominate this tranquil space with plenty of semi-private corners - there's room for nearly 150 customers here.
The food is spans 'afelia' (15 euros; spiced pork marinated in wine & coriander), lamb fricassee with 'avgolemono' egg-lemon sauce (19.50 euros), veal with olives & oregano (19.50 euros) & Peloponnese rabbit in wine sauce (19.50 euros). Not bad for a rustic-style dinner, though nothing truly leaped out to haunt our memories for very long.
