Casa Cacao @ Telawi, Bangsar
July 2, 2015
Chocolate forms the cornerstone of Casa Cacao, a destination dedicated to devotees of treats marked 'milk, dark or white.'
Casa Cacao is all about chocolate; its soft-launch menu appears appealing, though its founders acknowledge that they're still fine-tuning their recipe preparations & finalising their supply of ingredients. There's potential for a pleasurable indulgence once the kinks are worked out, with temptations that range from a stack of five chocolate chip pancakes with hazelnut praline cream, bananas, strawberries & vanilla ice cream (RM20) to green tea crepes stuffed with azuki bean creme diplomat & served with fruits, nuts & double chocolate ice cream (RM22) - yep, a dose of chocolate in some fashion is present on nearly every plate.
The extensive selection seems to represent some sort of greatest-hits compilation of crowd-pleasing desserts, with a twist here & there, like a chocolate lava cake with a soft salted egg yolk centre (RM23). You'll also find the likes of Belgian waffles with thick chocolate dipping sauce (RM23), coconut bavarois with chocolate almond crumble & mango sorbet (RM18), & later this week, chocolate fondue for two with banana bread (RM32).
Some offerings are outsourced: Pralines by Pastry Pro, choc macarons by The Tiny Temptress, & unmistakable Death By Choc & Durian Chocolate cakes by Just Heavenly. The concept's cool; this is meant to be a one-stop venue for choco-holics.
Beverages fare fairly well - the hot chocolate (RM12) hits the right notes for taste, texture & temperature, while the chocolate shake (RM15) is creamy but not cloying. You'll also find everything from a 'Spicy Mango Iced Chocolate' (RM14) to 'Toffee Milk Chocolate Frappes' (RM14.50). And there is coffee too, both on its own or infused with some manner of chocolate.
