Blu Med @ Mid Valley revised

February 7, 2013

Back to Blu Med, which is now officially open. Entry on Blu Meds preview: Jan. 17, 2013.

Sparks of creativity should help this restaurant remain afloat in KLs sea of Italian eateries. For a lovely introduction to Blu Meds capabilities, try the salmon tartare in chilled cherry tomato soup with burrata cheese & almonds (RM45++).

House-made ravioli of vanilla with lamb ragu, pistachios & red pepper ink (RM32++). Plus point: Blu Meds offerings are as intriguingly inventive as those of hotel-based Italian eateries, but prices here are mercifully suitable for a shopping mall instead of the Sheraton.

Still, with a menu thats a work in progress, there might be both hits & misses. The risotto with mussels, marjoram & coffee powder (RM32++) could teeter near blandness for some customers.

Paccheri sauteed with smoked goose strips & pear (RM30++). Starchy, with too little protein; the tube pasta could require several more seconds of cooking too.

Watermelon bavarese (RM16++). Fruity fun, refreshing finish for a muggy evening.

Drinking is made generously affordable at Blu Med. This RM68++ Chianti Ruffino is only one of several wines attractively priced by both the bottle & glass.

Plenty of potential; Blu Meds not a total success yet, but it could easily get there soon.

Looks-wise, the final products one of Mid Valleys prettiest, a nice place for both lunch & dinner.

Blu Meds last orders are at 10:30 pm (well, on weekends at the very least), so shoppers can have suppers here after the mall closes.
