Granja La Catalana & Cachitos, Barcelona

January 26, 2019

Skip Granja La Catalana and search elsewhere for your fix of tapas and paella in Barcelona: Its people-watching location on Rambla de Catalunya is convenient, but it suffers from subpar jamon, rubbery octopus and greasy paella with seafood that's past its prime. Rubbing salt into the wound, there's definitely superior sangria to be found in KL.

Situated scarcely steps away on the same street, Cachitos enjoys brisk business but is barely a bit of a better bet. The fried egg is wreathed with delicious fried artichokes, but the squid is stubbornly bland while the paella is severely over-seasoned. Wash down your regret with two special sangrias, one laced with Veuve Clicquot, the other with cava, both artificial-tasting.
