Tai Thong Group: 2018 Parents' Day Promotion
May 31, 2018
Intricately handcrafted out of yam and carrots, a dragon figurine stands guard imposingly over multiple tiers of culinary treasures, from coral clams to river prawns, as a vaporous swirl encircles the scene on our table. It's a magnificent sight, meant to express filial piety: Available now at Tai Thong restaurants, A Feast Of Gratitude is a celebration of parental love, for customers planning to mark Mother's Day, Father's Day or Parents' Day at any time until the end of June.
An advance booking of at least three days is required for A Feast Of Gratitude, but it's well worth the effort. Your table will be meticulously set up as you watch, with the Tai Thong team placing plate after plate of carefully curated recipes in procession, resulting in a strikingly photogenic setting.
The final flourish leaves a memorable impression, casting a magical, misty spell over the tower of temptations: Coral clams, flash-fried and fragrantly tinged with truffle oil; river prawns, fleshy and flavoursome, blanketed in golden cheese; beautifully briny abalone, braised with bean curd and broccoli; taro croquettes, crisp outside, warm and pleasurably soft within ...
... estuary grouper, steamed to silky smoothness and rolled with aged tangerine peels; honey-glazed oysters, wrapped with savoury bacon; capsicum and mushrooms, sauteed with black truffle sauce; and comfortingly hearty glutinous rice dumplings, stuffed with duck meat in lotus leaves. It's certainly a feast for the senses, bursting with buoyantly vibrant colours.
We love how Tai Thong chef Simon Lee has crafted a distinctive way of enjoying a Chinese banquet meal, presented in a fashion that evokes tapas instead of the typical course-by-course servings. It's fun for the entire family, choosing and sampling each treat one by one, with plenty to go around for eight persons, ensuring that everyone is satisfied by the end.
Rest assured, it's not merely a visual indulgence but a delight for the taste buds too - each freshly prepared offering is thoughtfully conceived and terrifically executed, rich in textures and flavours, resulting in a genuinely delicious journey as you move from one succulent specimen to the next.
There's one last element to this ensemble: Dessert, also showcased with theatrics galore, featuring gourmet Belgian chocolates, quick-frozen with liquid nitrogen. Bite into them and you'll release an exhalation of 'dragon's breath,' another source of wonder and merriment.
A Feast of Gratitude costs a total of RM988++. There's also another option called The Joyous Feast, which costs RM588++, also for eight persons, with ingredients such as roasted pigeon, sea cucumber with conpoy sauce, and sauteed fresh prawns with truffle oil. Check out taithong.com.my for details.
Also currently on Tai Thong's Parents' Day promotions list: Pastries packed with fillings like Hong Kong-inspired chocolate custard, pineapple jam, sweet-salty coconut, and peanut paste with white lotus and salted egg yolk. Tantalising tidbits that both Mom and Dad would definitely relish, at RM42++ per box.
A Feast of Gratitude is available through June 30 at Tai Thong outlets, including Tai Thong Odeon in Kepong Baru, Imperial China in Subang Jaya, Imperial City in Cheras, Imperial Garden in Petaling Jaya, Oriental Pearl in Bukit Jalil and Bukit Kiara, Spring Garden in Kota Permai, and Royal China in Ipoh.
