The official relaunch this month of Sentul's Eat X Dignity, formerly Project B Cafe, marks a fresh step in collaborative efforts between Malaysia's Dignity for Children Foundation and the Berjaya Cares Foundation.
Eat X Dignity is more than a cafe; it's an initiative that provides underprivileged students with the opportunity to learn entrepreneurial skills in the F&B industry. Everyone who works at the cafe is part of the programme, which teaches practical skills that participants can take with them to other restaurants once they graduate.
At the relaunch ceremony, a cooking exhibition by programme participants produced lip-smacking Indonesian satay lilit. Guests also enjoyed nasi kerabu, which is however not part of the cafe's menu. On regular days, Eat X Dignity serves burgers, pasta, noodles, rice, salads and an assortment of fried chicken, ranging from RM7 to RM20 per dish.
All proceeds from the cafe's sales go to the Dignity for Children Foundation to fund further initiatives to help more children.
The young participants of this initiative are encouraged to pursue their own projects. For instance, they can cultivate herbs in a garden, which are then used in the cafe's dishes. Currently, you can discover lemongrass and various kinds of ginger there.
Eat X Dignity is one of the several initiatives run by the Dignity for Children Foundation. Other entrepreneurial efforts include Cut X Dignity (hair salon) and Sew X Dignity (fashion). The foundation also hosts fundraising opportunities for the public to help fund and Empower-a-Child.
