1 Mont Kiara: Ramadan & Aidilfitri Celebrations 2018
May 26, 2018
By Aiman Azri
With the fasting month of Ramadan now underway, 1 Mont Kiara is celebrating the festive spirit of Aidilfitri with a family-friendly range of events and activities every weekend, bringing classical Malay arts and heritage to this contemporary neighbourhood mall.
Check out vivid Malay Traditional dance performances, riveting Silat Showcases, and melodious Dikir Barat and Angklung instrumental performances. There will also be shows by the Beat City band from Pusat Didikan Khas Selayang, as well as Raya Arts & Crafts Workshops to amuse visitors of all generations.
The complete schedule is as follows, running throughout June:
For shoppers, if you spend RM 350 across a maximum of two receipts on the same day in 1 Mont Kiara, you'll be able to redeem a cookie jar from 1 to 14 June.
Speaking of cookies, snacks and meals, there's a fair number of attractive dining options at 1 Mont Kiara for breaking your fast. Here are the mall's top recommendations:
O Coffee Club
1 Mont Kiara houses Malaysia's flagship outpost of O Coffee Club, which has carved a niche for comfort food and gourmet coffee. O Coffee Club also boasts an all-new Ramadan Feast menu for your buka puasa convenience: Choose from a selection of Malaysian-inspired crowd-pleasers, including Pandan Rice (with chicken or beef kurma), Lentil Ghee Rice (with chicken or beef kuzi), Beef Rendang Pasta, or Nyonya Curry Chicken Pasta. Each comes with complimentary date juice.
O Coffee Club also has a small bakery by the side, with treats to purchase that would be perfect for the morning sahur. If you need an extra bit of pep, be sure to sample their caffeine, complete with coffee art.
Pasta Zanmai
Pasta Zanmai is a popular pick for breaking fast, with its hearty repertoire of Japanese noodle, rice and other dishes. The 1 Mont Kiara outpost is set up with a brightly lit, wide-open feel, ideal for a cheerful meal.
The all-time best-sellers here include the Kaki Kimuchi Pasta & Tori Karaage Garlic Rice, a set of two different dishes for two persons, priced at a total of RM 33, enabling you and a friend to share a steaming-hot bowl of pasta with oysters and a plate of fried rice with chicken.
Kodawari Menya
Authenticity is key for Kodawari Menya, which imports its udon and soup directly from Kagawa prefecture in Japan. The restaurant is set up like a Japanese self-service shop; place your order and make your way up the counter, picking out your favourite tempura or side dishes as you do so. The hot dishes are prepared right before you, so you can choose to watch the cooking as you count down the minutes to buka.
The restaurant is best known for its beefy Niku Udon, the Niku Miso Udon, the Teriyaki Chicken Rice Bowl, and the Chicken Tempura Curry Rice. (Photos of food provided by Kodawari Menya)
Suki-ya
A hot-pot buffet makes for a satisfying feast at the end of the day - order various cuts of meat to be paired with one of Suki-ya's four soup bases: shabu-shabu, sukiyaki, miso or kimuchi.
Pair the proteins with vegetables and sides, as well as sushi, maki, beef balls, noodles and clams. There's also a dedicated ice cream bar, great for the kids.
Ah Cheng Laksa
For a fuss-free breaking of fast, Ah Cheng Laksa is all about Malaysian delicacies, ranging from the signature Asam Laksa and Curry Laksa to Nasi Lemak and Pan Mee, maintaining a commitment to local culinary traditions, relying on many authentic ingredients from northern Malaysia.
Blending festivities with plenty of flavours, 1 Mont Kiara is definitely a destination to consider throughout Ramadan, for a full month's worth of culture, art, and of course, food.
Many thanks to 1 Mont Kiara for having us.
